Tree Removal in Tioga County, NY

Tree removal in Tioga County from the crew that lives here. Tubbs Tree Service is based in Spencer and takes down big, awkward trees from Owego to Candor with care for everything around them.

Most tree removal calls we get in Tioga County are not simple. A white pine leaning over a farmhouse in Spencer, a hollow maple between a garage and a barn in Newark Valley, a row of tall spruce shading a village lot in Owego. These trees grew up with the property, and taking them down without harming the rest of it is the whole job.

Every removal starts with a $50 on-site consultation with owner Jason Tubbs, who brings 20+ years of experience in forestry, residential tree work and property management. He walks the site, looks at what the tree could hit, and gives you an itemized plan with more than one option. When you accept, the $50 comes off the job. No tree too big and no space too small.

What drives the cost of a removal here

Two trees of the same height can price very differently in this county. Jason’s plan spells out which of these factors apply to yours, so you can see where the effort goes.

  • Size, species and condition. A sound oak handles rigging differently from a dead, brittle ash.
  • Access. Long gravel driveways, steep yards and soft ground near creeks change what equipment can reach the tree.
  • What sits underneath: roofs, decks, barns, septic fields, fences and service lines.
  • Method. Crane, bucket truck, or climbers with ropes and rigging, depending on the lot.
  • Cleanup choices, from leaving logs in lengths to a full haul-off, plus optional stump grinding.

Matching crane, bucket or climber to the lot

On an open Candor hillside a bucket truck may reach the whole tree. In a tight Owego backyard, a crane can lift sections over the house so nothing swings toward the roof. Where neither machine can get in, our climbers rope each piece down and lower it in controlled sections. A truck with a knuckle boom and log grapple then moves heavy wood without dragging it across your lawn.

Keeping the wood close to home

A big Tioga County hardwood can be a winter of heat or a pile of useful mulch. We plan for the wood to go to local use, whether that is stacked rounds you keep for your own stove, chips for garden beds, or, now and then, logs suited to building material. New York rules say untreated firewood cannot travel more than 50 miles from where it grew unless it is heat-treated, so using it on your own land is the simplest route.

Tree Removal Questions From Tioga County

Do I need a permit to take down a tree on my land in Owego or Spencer?

It depends on where the tree stands. A tree in a road right-of-way may belong to the town, village or state, and local rules vary. Check with your town or village office before work begins. During the consultation, Jason will point out any tree that looks close to a road line so you know what to ask about.

Can I keep the wood to burn in my own woodstove?

Yes. Tell Jason how you want it, and the plan can leave rounds cut to stove-friendly lengths and stacked where you choose. If you would rather not deal with it, we can arrange for the wood to go to other local use. Keeping it on your property also keeps you well within the state’s 50-mile firewood rule.

Is stump grinding included when you remove a tree?

Not automatically, because some people want the stump left for a woodlot edge or a seat. Your itemized plan lists stump grinding as its own line so you can add it to the removal or skip it. If you change your mind later, grinding can also be booked on its own.
