Tree Service in Schuyler County, NY
Around Watkins Glen, Montour Falls and the Seneca Lake shoreline, steep slopes and lakefront lots make tree work tricky. We serve Schuyler County with careful removals, pruning and clearing.
Schuyler County wraps around the south end of Seneca Lake, and a lot of its trees grow in places that are hard to work. Lakefront camps perch on steep banks above the water, village lots in Watkins Glen and Montour Falls back up to wooded ravines, and the ridge through Hector holds the Finger Lakes National Forest, roughly 16,212 acres of woods, gorges and ravines between Seneca and Cayuga lakes. Away from the shoreline, Odessa, Burdett and the rural towns mix hayfields, vineyards, hedgerows and family woodlots.
Tubbs Tree Service is based in Spencer, in Tioga County. Most of our work is in Tompkins County, and we offer extended service across Schuyler. Owner and President Jason Tubbs brings 20+ years of experience in forestry, residential tree work, and construction and property management. The crew brings a crane, a bucket truck, climbers on ropes and rigging, and a knuckle boom truck with a log grapple, which matters here because so many trees lean over water, roofs or a gorge edge. Our motto is simple: no tree too big and no space too small.
Every Schuyler job starts with a $50 on-site consultation. Jason walks the property, looks at access, slope, wires and the wildlife using the trees, then writes an itemized plan with several levels of service to choose from. The $50 is credited to the job when you accept your plan. Wood from the work goes to local use as firewood, mulch or sometimes building material. Request a time on our contact page, and for storm damage, use our emergency tiers. Tubbs is fully insured.
Tree Issues We See in Schuyler County
Hemlock ravines under pressure
Hemlocks shade the glens and ravines that cut down to Seneca Lake, and hemlock woolly adelgid has been reported in Schuyler. The USDA has run suppression work on nearly 3,000 acres of the Finger Lakes National Forest. A hemlock that thins out above a cottage or a ravine path can become a falling hazard, so it pays to have it looked at while there is still time to plan instead of react.
Dying ash and newer beech trouble
Emerald ash borer turned up in far western Schuyler before 2018, and Cornell confirmed it in the Arnot Forest, which spans Schuyler and Tompkins, that same year. Ash killed by the beetle turns brittle and drops limbs without warning. Beech leaf disease was newly detected in the county in 2022, which adds another species to watch in mixed woodlots around Burdett, Odessa and Hector.
Wind off the open lake
On June 18, 2026, an EF-1 tornado with 90 mph winds started at Rock Stream in Yates County and crossed Seneca Lake into Schuyler, uprooting numerous trees, according to the National Weather Service. Shoreline trees take the full force of storms that build over the open water. Many lake properties still have leaning, root-sprung or hung-up trees from that day that deserve a careful look.
Two different power providers
The Village of Watkins Glen runs its own municipal electric department, while NYSEG serves Montour Falls, Odessa, Burdett and the towns of Catharine, Cayuta, Dix, Hector, Montour, Orange, Reading and Tyrone. When a tree hits a wire, knowing which one serves your address saves time. Stay back, call 911 and the right utility, and call Tubbs once the line has been made safe.
