Tree Service in Seneca County, NY
Tubbs Tree Service extends into Seneca County, serving Seneca Falls, Waterloo, Ovid, Interlaken and Lodi with tree removal, pruning, clearing and storm cleanup.
Seneca County runs north to south between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake, with the county seat in the Village of Waterloo and the historic village of Seneca Falls a few miles east along the canal. Tree work here splits into two very different settings. In the older villages, big street and yard trees stand close to houses, porches and sidewalks. Across Fayette, Romulus, Ovid, Lodi, Covert and Interlaken, the job is more often farm hedgerows, woodlots, and lakefront homes and camps on both shores.
Tubbs Tree Service is based in Spencer, in Tioga County, and works mainly in Tompkins County with extended service into Seneca. Seneca is the farthest county we cover, so here is the honest version: the $50 on-site consultation with Jason Tubbs is scheduled weekly, the same as everywhere else, with priority based on how severe the problem is. Jason walks the property and builds an itemized plan with several levels of service to choose from, and the $50 is credited to the job when you accept it.
The September 2, 2026 tornadoes put a spotlight on the county’s trees. An EF-2 tracked through the Town of Fayette and an EF-1 ran from Waterloo to Seneca Falls, and plenty of trees that are still standing now carry cracked limbs, lifted roots or hung-up branches. If a damaged tree threatens your home right now, Tubbs offers an Emergency Assessment ($300, on site the next business day) and Emergency Response ($5,000 minimum, crew and equipment dispatched immediately), with both fees credited toward the work.
Tree Issues We See in Seneca County
Tornado damage that is still hanging around
The EF-2 in Fayette reached 115 mph along a path of nearly 8 miles, and the EF-1 between Waterloo and Seneca Falls reached 95 mph. Storms like that twist trunks and loosen root plates without always knocking trees down. Weeks later, a tree can look fine from the road while a split leader or a hanging limb waits for the next strong wind or heavy snow.
Beech leaf disease and elm zigzag sawfly
Beech leaf disease was first detected in Seneca County in 2023, and elm zigzag sawfly was first observed here in 2024. Beech leaf disease causes banded, thickened leaves and slow decline. The sawfly is a newer leaf feeder on elms. Neither means a tree must come down tomorrow, but both are good reasons to have declining beech and elm looked at before they start dropping dead wood.
Hemlock woolly adelgid on the ridge
Hemlock woolly adelgid has been reported in Seneca County, and the Finger Lakes National Forest on the ridge between the two lakes lies partly in Seneca. Hemlocks shade the ravines and stream banks that drain toward Seneca and Cayuga lakes. When an infested hemlock dies near a cabin, trail or driveway, it becomes a removal question, and the steep ground makes planning important.
Ash trees in yards and fencerows
Emerald ash borer is present across New York, and Seneca County’s ash trees have not escaped it. Dead ash turns brittle quickly, which makes it harder and riskier to climb the longer it stands. In village yards in Waterloo and Seneca Falls, and along farm fencerows in Romulus and Varick, a dead ash near a house, barn or road is worth planning for sooner rather than later.
