Brush & Land Clearing

Clear overgrown brush, saplings and trees for building, views or usable land.

Some trees and brush need regular maintenance, and some ground needs to be cleared outright. We clear brush, saplings and trees to open up building sites, driveways, trails, fields and views, and keep properties safe and maintained through every season.

Clearing does not have to mean scraping everything to bare dirt. The best projects keep the trees worth keeping, remove what is in the way, and leave the land healthier and easier to manage. Jason’s background in forestry and in construction and property management shapes every clearing plan we write.

Common Clearing Projects

  • House and garage sites before construction
  • Driveways, access roads and turnarounds
  • Fence lines, hedgerows and field edges that have grown in
  • Overgrown brush and invasive growth such as buckthorn, honeysuckle and multiflora rose
  • Trails, paths and openings in woodlots
  • Views of a lake, valley or hillside
  • Space for a solar array, pond, barn or garden

Selective Clearing: Keep the Good Trees

Before any saw starts, we walk the site with you and decide what stays. Healthy, well-placed trees add value, shade and privacy. Removing the crowded, damaged and low-value stems around them gives the keepers more light and room to grow. Your plan will mark which trees stay and which go, so there are no surprises.

What Happens to the Material

A cleared lot produces a lot of wood and brush, and we plan for it up front. Logs can be cut to firewood length or set aside, and in some cases used as building material. Brush can be chipped into mulch for trails and beds. Where it makes sense, some brush can be left in piles that give birds and small animals cover. Whatever is left is hauled away.

Planning Around Wildlife and Water

Woodlots and hedgerows are habitat. Birds nest in spring and early summer, and bats roost in trees through the warm months, so the timing of a clearing job matters. Where we can, we schedule larger clearing outside the nesting season. Near streams, ponds and wet ground, it is worth checking with your town or the DEC before work begins, and we will plan access so equipment does not tear up soft ground.

What Affects the Cost

  • Acreage and how dense the growth is
  • Size of the trees, not just the brush
  • Slope, rock, wet ground and access for equipment
  • Selective clearing versus clearing everything
  • Whether wood is kept, cut to length or hauled away
  • Stump grinding on the cleared area

Large Projects Welcome

Multi-tree jobs are where planning pays off. We map out the order of work so the site stays safe, equipment moves efficiently and cleanup is fast. One customer had more than 45 trees removed after other companies were nervous to take the project on. That is the kind of work we are built for.

Common Questions

Do you clear whole lots?

Yes. Send us the address and what you want the land used for, and Jason will walk it with you and write a clearing plan with options.

Can you clear just the brush and leave the trees?

Yes. Selective clearing is often the best approach. We mark the trees worth keeping and remove the brush and weaker stems around them.

What happens to everything you cut?

Logs can be cut to firewood length, set aside, or hauled. Brush can be chipped and used as mulch on site or removed. Your plan lists each option.

Do I need a permit to clear land?

Most private clearing does not need one, but work near streams, ponds or wetlands, or in some village or town zones, may. Check with your town office or the DEC before the job if water or wet ground is involved.

When is the best time of year to clear?

Late fall and winter are often best. The ground can be firmer, the brush is easier to see and handle, and birds are not nesting.
